About the venture
GEMESYS is a pioneering deep-tech startup based in Bochum, Germany, committed to pushing the boundaries of computing technology. Their mission is to design a chip that functions like the human brain, overcoming computing limitations to empower AI with the necessary hardware for transformative impact.
With €3M+ in funding and full backing from the German Government and the Federal Ministry for Economics and Climate Action, GEMESYS is challenging the status quo. The team consists of innovative thinkers who thrive in an agile, startup environment, providing hands-on opportunities to contribute to next-generation AI hardware. GEMESYS operates with a high-speed approach, embracing fast failure and even faster learning.
About the role
GEMESYS is looking for a Senior Analog-/Mixed-Signal Design Engineer to join their cutting-edge hardware development team. This role requires expertise across the full IC design stack—from concept through successful silicon implementation, including top-level integration, post-layout verification, and final design sign-off. Experience with PCB design, system integration, and chip testing is highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, simulate, and validate analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits, including opamps, low-power and low-leakage circuits, logic, and memory blocks.
- Lead and participate in all stages of the IC design process, including:
- Schematic design and simulation
- Layout and parasitic extraction
- Design and performance verification (post-layout simulations)
- Top-level integration and sign-off
- Focus on low-power performance, low-leakage, and noise robustness in circuit design.
- Ensure precise physical design implementation.
- Support board-level design, integration, and testing processes.
- Debug silicon prototypes in the lab, focusing on performance optimization and issue resolution.
- Collaborate closely with other teams to ensure designs meet system-level requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation for design, testing, and verification processes.
Job requirements
About you
- A Master’s (or PhD) degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with a focus on integrated circuit design (analog-/mixed-signal).
- 5+ years of experience in analog-/mixed-signal IC design.
- Proven record of 3+ successful tape-outs involving complex IC design flows (experience with 65nm or below is a plus).
- Strong expertise in designing opamps, low-power, and low-leakage circuits.
- Proficiency with industry-standard design tools (preferably Cadence Virtuoso).
- Strong skills in parasitic extraction, post-layout simulation, and verification methodologies (MC, corner).
- Knowledge of device physics and fabrication processes for optimizing design performance.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering challenges and contribute to innovative solutions.
Bonus
- Familiarity with advanced CMOS process nodes (e.g., 65nm and below).
- Experience with PCB design (e.g., Altium Designer) and debugging of analog-/mixed-signal circuits.
- Experience with data converters (ADCs/DACs), filters, logic and memory blocks, as well as other mixed-signal blocks and methods.
- Background in AI research and development
