Job description

About MAHI

At MAHI, we build software and hardware for autonomous and remotely operated vessels. Our main office is in Mechelen and we have a test base in Oostende, where we develop, test, and deploy our systems in real-world environments.

Our core product is a field computer and software that enables vessels to operate remotely or autonomously. From control electronics to custom software and sensor fusion, we design and integrate it all. Now, we’re looking for a technician to help us install and maintain those systems on board vessels.

Are you a hands-on electro-mechanical technician who thrives in dynamic environments and loves seeing technology come to life at sea? Looking to work at the forefront of maritime innovation? Then this opportunity might just be your next adventure!

Join MAHI, a high-tech startup that’s redefining marine autonomy with real-world applications and a tight-knit, passionate team.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Field Technician, you'll play a vital role in the deployment and validation of MAHI systems. Your responsibilities include:

  • Installing MAHI systems on various vessels (sensor units, computing hardware, power integration), physical installation and cabling

  • Participating in on-water tests, validation campaigns, and client demonstrations

  • Diagnosing & troubleshooting hardware and software issues during field operations

  • Software configuration and supporting sea trials

  • Collaborating with R&D and operations teams to improve reliability and performance by looping back your observations from the field to the development team

This role combines hands-on tech with fieldwork. Expect a mix of lab prep, on-board work, and days on the water.

What you need to succeed

  • Professional Bachelor's degree in Electro-Mechanics, Electronics, Automotive, or similar

  • Driver’s license BE (for driving a van while towing a vessel on a trailer)

  • Hands-on technical experience (electrical wiring, mechanical equipment mounting, sensor installation, troubleshooting)

  • Willingness to work on-site and travel (mostly in Mechelen & Oostende and regular international travel)

  • Basic understanding (at least 1 course completed) of networks, electronics, and embedded systems

  • Good communicator and team player

  • Professional proficiency in English, Dutch and any other language is a plus

  • Bonus:

    • Valid Yachtman license or an STCW II/3 or equivalent certificate

    • Valid GMDSS SRC certificate or higher

    • Experience with marine systems, drones, or autonomous vehicles

What’s in It for You

  • A hands-on role in a cutting-edge marine tech startup

  • Diverse technical challenges—no two days are the same

  • Direct impact on product deployment and real-world performance

  • Collaborative work environment with passionate engineers

  • Access to test vessels, state-of-the-art equipment, and plenty of sea air

On-site
  • Mechelen, Antwerpen, Belgium
